E.L.S.
Extended Localization System
The E.L.S. (Extended Localization System) is used to localize vehicles based on their surroundings without artificial markers.
The basis is an industrial PC (1). In addition to vehicle odometry (2), safety laser scanners (3) or dedicated 2D or 3D lidar (e.g. Velodyne VLP-16) (4) can be used. To create the map, the vehicle is simply guided manually through the surroundings. The vehicle’s own position can then be determined using this map of the surroundings. The method is tolerant to changes in the environment. E.L.S. has already been used successfully in numerous indoor and outdoor applications.
