Lehrte, November 2024 – On November 8, 2024, the presentation of a heavy-duty truck equipped with Götting technology took place together with our partner Geis-Logistik
in Bad Neustadt an der Saale. The vehicle was driven autonomously and teleoperated (video-based) on public roads.
The route taken by the truck led over the Geis-Logistik company premises and the roads of the associated “Am Dolzbach” industrial estate. The truck was equipped in such a way that it was able to drive the previously taught route (Teach-In) independently without a driver. The vehicle only stopped in the event of unforeseen obstacles and could then be driven around the obstacle (e.g. around parked vehicles) remotely from a teleoperation control station.

The test drives were part of the 5G-INNOPLAT-NES project
for real-time teleoperation via 5G networks. Götting contributed its experience with LTE/4G/5G networks to the implementation of video and control data transmission via 5G. The company received the first campus network license in Lower Saxony. The combination of automatic operation and teleoperation made it possible to achieve fully automatic driving according to level 4 in Bad Neustadt. The use of 5G also enables teleoperation from a control center, which may be geographically distant from the vehicle’s location.
In addition to its experience in the use of modern networks, Götting KG is also known for its expertise in the teleoperation of commercial vehicles. This technology has already been used successfully for forklift trucks in internal logistics, but also at the world’s largest plant at BASF in Ludwigshafen. There, seven 100 t transporters (special vehicles for tank containers) are controlled over distances totaling 120 km.
Teleoperation is a forward-looking solution in the field of local transport logistics, particularly in view of the shortage of skilled workers in professional road transport. While full Level 5 automation in complex environments such as city centers will still be a while off, the solution presented together with Geis-Logistik is „a milestone for the future of logistics“ , according to Geis. Demand in the field of vehicle automation has increased significantly, so Götting KG is looking to expand and has made plans to hire additional staff. This is particularly good news in these difficult times
