Lehrte, March 22, 2016 – Götting KG presents a safety laser scanner that is SIL2-certified and complies with performance level PL d. The HG 45000ZA laser scanner is used to detect people in the path of travel. Applications include automated guided vehicles (AGVs) or remote-controlled vehicles in industrial environments. When a person is detected, a downstream safety function can be triggered via a safe output signal, which switches the vehicle to a safe state, such as standstill or reduced speed.
The ground scanner consists of a sensor (laser scanner) and an interpreter unit. The sensor must be mounted in a suitable position with alignment to the direction of travel to be monitored. The interpreter unit can be installed in any position in the vehicle. The two units are connected via a cable. The interfaces for the power supply and the digital inputs and outputs are located on the interpreter unit.

The Safety Laser Scanner 1 is checking the roadway. A supplementary horizontal scanner 2 detects obstacles at long range.
The sensor of the safety laser scanner rotationally scans the distance to the surroundings in small angular steps in the set angle range and in two superimposed planes. The principle is based on light transit time measurement:
- The road in front of the vehicle is checked for “presence”, “completeness” and “evenness”. An emergency stop is triggered in the event of a deviation.
- Detection of objects through the recorded reflection of emitted laser pulses in the infrared range
- Determination of the object distance via the propagation time of the laser pulse from emission to detection of the reflection
- Determination and evaluation of the size and position of objects in the detection area
